May 7 through May 13

We got up early and hit the road by 7:30 AM for Sequim, Wa. It had rained during the night but the day was gorgeous with lots of sunshine in Salem. By the time we got to Portland we had lost two hubcaps off the new trailer. The drive was beautiful, even with us running into rain and cold weather almost immediately. Our campground was a too crowded and disappointing but the area was wonderful. We set up camp quickly to go and explore the area.
We had heard about the beauty of the Olympic National Mountains so we headed up to the mountain to a place called Hurricane Ridge to catch a peek. We hit it just right as the weather was clear on the mountain. They told us the mountain is quite often fogged in and you can't see anything when you go up there.
We spent a day in Victoria, BC and Sharon fell asleep on the ferry ride home. She was very tired from walking 500 miles uphill to see and old castle and Kent wouldn't ride the bus because he didn't want any Canadian change to bring home. Sharon was rather upset with his way of thinking and needless to say, we rode the bus down the hill.
Port Townsend, Port Angeles and Forks, WA. all had a lot to see and enjoy. While we were in the North West corner of the U.S. we went to Neah Bay and hiked out to Cape Flattery which is known as the most North West Point of the lower 48 States. When we started down the trail, we met 5 young men who looked very tired!!!! We asked them if the hike was a tough one and they said not too bad, they were just out of shape. We knew we were out of shape especially after the walk to the castle and wondered if we should attempt it. We actually came up the hilly trail in fine shape with no pain. We are now proud to say we are 1/4 complete of our goal of going to the 4 farthest points of the lower 48.
Saturday we stayed home to get our laundry and cleaning done. This wasn't too exciting, and we soon found ourselves side tracked with a 2 hour parade in town. There where people who came all the way from Seattle to Forks, WA to attend the parade. We never saw a parade where there were many school bands marching and playing. The little town of Sequim was bursting at the seams!
