On our way home we stopped at the ocean to see the Pod of Elephant Seals. They have a trunk that resembles an elephant. It was calving time and there were a lot of new babies there crying for their mommies. This is the time of the year when they come home to give birth, stay a few weeks, get bred before leaving North to British Columbia. Gestation is about 11 months. We were told there was a new baby born just a few minutes before we got there. It was crying a lot for its mother and another seal came over to it and a fight occurred. The mothers identify their baby by its cry. The bulls are very aggressive over their territory and females. We saw several fights with them. (Pictures).
