April 12, 13, 2007

April 12th We arrived at the "Grand Canyon Railway" campground in William's, Arizona about 3 PM. The campground host told us we might not want to hook up our water, as it might freeze. We had just left 100 degree plus weather just a few hours ago and we thought she was crazy. About 5PM snow flurries were coming down like crazy, by 9 PM everything was covered with snow and it was very white outside. Needless to say, Kent was out there disconnecting the water and turning on the furnace. The space heater we usually use when it is a chilly evening just didn't do the job. The next morning when we looked out, our neighbor had his water hose froze up and he was trying to thaw it. He must have thought the lady was crazy too and didn't look out at the snow coming down.
April 13th At 8:30 AM we attended the cowboy shootout over by the train that was to take us to the Grand Canyon. The seats were covered with melting snow and everyone had on very warm coats for the tour of the canyon. At 9AM we boarded the train, on the train they had a mock train robbery. (Picture) The guys were all dressed up and had guns that sounded real when they shot them. Sharon really enjoyed the train robbers arm around her, Kent thought she was going to go home with him. It was a lot of fun.
A bus took us to the rim of the canyon where they drove us around and let us off at various view points for pictures. (pictures) Later we had a buffet dinner and we got home about 5:30 PM.
