February 28th & 29th, 2008

Wednesday 28h~~~ After our morning coffee, we went over to the swimming pool and Sharon spent an hour doing her laps there. We really love this campground and we take advantage of all it has to offer. We went as far as Eugene where Sharon's daughter and her family live. It is Pamela's birthday and we are invited to go our for dinner with them to celebrate her birthday. (picture) We stayed up late visiting when we got home as we will be leaving tomorrow for Salem. Friday 29th~~
We arrived in Salem about 2:30 PM and the yard looked so nice, William does such a good job keeping it looking good. We didn't do much tonight but unpack a few clothes and settle in, we are going our for pizza tomorrow night with some of Sharon's kids.

February 24ththru the 27th, 2008

Sunday 24th~~~We left San Diego about 11:00 this morning and there was a heavy drizzle coming down. We drove in rain most of the morning and that is good, as they need the rain. We drove 212 miles today and will spent the night in Santa Clarita at an Elk's Lodge. It was closed, but the park was nice and quiet. Monday 25th~~~~ Today we drove 296 miles to Tracy, California over the mountain range called the Grape Vine. We are staying at another Elk's Club. The weather is great, we started about 11:00 AM. Sharon packed a great picnic lunch which we like rather than having to stop to eat. Tuesday 26~~~~~We drove 230 miles today to Redding, Ca. The weather is real nice and we are staying at another Elk's Club. This is a nice club with lots of nice large spaces to park in. We went out for dinner at the "Olive Garden". Thanks Lisa and Gene for the gift certificate, this is another of our favorite places to eat. Tomorrow night we will be at the "Seven Feathers" Casino to stay. Wednesday 27th~~~~~~ We arrived at the Seven Feathers Casino about 3 PM.

Friday 22nd~~~~~This morning there was a small earthquake. Sharon was buying some makeup and the girls and Sharon felt it. Sharon said she thought someone ran into the building. It was 4 points, but Kent sitting there waiting for Sharon never felt a thing. They said there was another one a few days ago that we never felt. Today our truck got backed into in the parking lot. It was hit by one of our good friends we have here. It did very little damage to our truck, (just the tail light cracked) but Howie's truck has duel tires and he tore the whole fender off his. The fiber glass just shattered on it and it is one big piece to replace. We felt so sorry for him, as his truck has been in repair so much and he just got it all running good. That is why we didn't get duelies for our truck. We see so many of them with the rear fenders all torn up. We will fix it at home, and they will pay us for it.
Saturday 23rd~~~~ Kent was all excited today because he and our neighbor Howie are taking Howie's boat out and put it in the marina for a test run. Howie just bought the boat and he has never docked one or loaded one on the trailer. Kent just loves boats, so we are staying one extra day so Kent can go play with Howie and his boat!! Sharon stayed home and played house, making a macaroni salad, a loaf of wheat bread, a pan of Carmel cinnamon rolls and some lemon squares. She misses her baking so much, so this is a good place to do it, as we have lots of neighbors who would gladly help eat some. Cindy (Howie's wife) came over and visited with Sharon while the guys were gone and watched her bake. Sharon got a call that a friend of the girls at the shop had died suddenly. It would be nice to be home at times like this, so Sharon could go and help out at the shop for the girls. We never know when the Lord will call us home, so we must enjoy life each and everyday and always treat it as it might be our last.

Thursday 21st~~~~~ We got up early this morning to drive 165 miles to Algadonus, Mexico. We both need new glasses and we were told that they are supposed to be very inexpensive there. We got there about 10:30 and the line coming back to the states was already 2 blocks long. The first place we went to they were as high as what we would pay in the US for glasses. We declined to get them there and they didn't have any frames we liked. We then went to our favorite Mexican place to eat lunch, they make the best shrimp tacos I have ever ate. They are the biggest shrimp and are so good for only $1.25 each. We decided if we didn't find any glasses, the lunch was worth the drive. HAHA We found an optical place near that area, so we went in and we liked the girls working there immediately. We had our eyes examined and we both got a pair of new frames with progressive, tinted lenses for a total of $285 for both, and only took 2 hours to make. They really had a large inventory of frames. We will do that again when we need glasses. While we waited for our glasses to be made, we walked all over and we went to the plaza and had a margarita and sat with another couple who were there for a dentist appointment. They are snow birding in Yuma, and they have a home in Spokane, Washington. The music was fantastic and there were several people dancing. The place was full of activity with all the Mexican People selling jewelry, artwork, clothes and pottery and anything else you can think of. It is a lot of fun to watch the bartering that goes on, if you buy one thing, you have all of them at your tables and they won't hardly leave you along.(Sharon found out) One of them that wanted to sell Sharon something, said Kent was a big Daddy and she should buy it. We picked up our glasses and went right to the line of people to cross the border. It took us 1 hour and 15 minutes standing in line to cross back to the good old United States of America.!!! A Passport is pretty much a must now. It was a long day by the time we drove home, but we felt it was worth it and we do enjoy that town in Mexico.

February 18 thru 20th, 2008

Monday 18th~~~~~~ Today is Laundry and house cleaning day. Sharon did her walk in the morning while Kent was on the computer again. I think she must need it worse than him! LOL
Tuesday 19th~~~~~ We went to Balboa Park on the trolley today and what a cultural experience that was. The car we rode on was full of Black Americans with Kent and I and a lady from Seattle. I thought they were showing off for our benefit, but Kent said he thought the girls were acting up trying to impress the boys. Every time this boy touched this girl anywhere she screamed at him, "Don't touch me, I ain't cha nigga!! She must have screamed this 6 times as he kept putting his hand on her knee. We couldn't understand why they call themselves that when they get upset if called that by other nationalities. The lady from Seattle was very confused by their behavior as we were. We got off at Balboa Park and went to the San Diego Art Museum. There was all kinds of art, American, Asian and several more. We really enjoyed the American art the best as they had a large viewing of Asher B Durand's American landscape paintings which were awesome. Most of them were so large, it would take a mansion to be able to hang one of them. I can't imaging how he could paint that many of them in his life time as big as all of them were. Next we went to the Museum of Man where they had replicas made of the ancient Pillars made by the Maya Indians in Guadalupe back before Christ. These replicas were made in 1914. It is too long a story to explain, but it sure was interesting. (pictures). We went there today because Sharon wanted to see at the showing of "The Dead Sea Scrolls", they are no longer showing them and are now showing "A Day in Pompey". Today was a very busy one again and we were sure tired when we got home.
Wednesday 20th~~~~~ Today we rode the trolley to Old Town San Diego and on to Mission Valley Shopping Center. We did a lot of looking, as they have winter clothes out there and we are looking for some summer clothes. We rode the trolley a long way so Sharon could see some places Kent went to last year alone when Sharon took the train back to Salem for a few days.

Saturday the 16th ~~~~ We got off at Pacific Beach and we walked the boardwalk and went into some of the shops. The boardwalk is so neat and the condo's along it are very nice. The beach was loaded with people playing in the sand, swimming, and sun bathing. We stopped to watch some college kids play volley ball and that made us lonesome for our grand children at home.We thought it would be neat if Rockaway Beach would do some of these things in Oregon. We walked a little on the sand and we walked out on Crystal pier to watch a lot of people fishing and the surfers in the ocean. The day was cooler than yesterday, but we enjoyed our walk and the people. We have a lot of fun watching the different class of people and how they act and dress. After our walk on the boardwalk we caught the bus to the trolley and rode it to where we parked the truck. We finished off a busy day at the "Coronado Shores" for Pizza.

Friday 15th~~~~Today we rode the trolley, transferred to a bus and we went to Coronado Beach. The transit system here is so nice, we bought a months pass for $16.00. It makes sight seeing so nice, as we don't have to find a place to park the big truck and it sure saves on the fuel. Sharon takes a book to read and Kent enjoys the ride not having to drive. There are people from every walk of life on the trolley and bus. A lot of them you can tell are workers coming or going to work as they look so tired. It makes one real thankful for the blessings we have, right down to the smallest things. We find it quite interesting to sit and listen to some of the conversations around us and some of the people are so nice and tell you neat things about San Diego. We got off at Coronado Beach and we walked the boardwalk and went into some of the shops. The boardwalk is so neat and the condo's along it are very nice. We wondered through the "Hotel Del Coronada" (picture) and shopped the gift shop before going out to the boardwalk there. It is a very old hotel in San Diego built in 1886 and there are pictures all over in it of the famous movie stars who stayed there. It was the " in" place for them to go to and it is still very nice and spendy. Where the boardwalk ends is a restricted area along the beach where the government has it guarded and the Navy Seals do their practicing on the beach and in the water.(picture)The day was cooler than yesterday, but we enjoyed our walk and the people. We have a lot of fun watching the different class of people and how they act and dress.
By the time we got on the bus, it was getting pretty cool and dark. We came home pretty tired and Sharon cooked a great spaghetti dinner.

February 11, 2008

Monday the 11th~~~~~ We had our morning coffee outdoors as it is another beautiful day. While Kent did some computer work, Sharon went for her walk trying to do it everyday. It is something you feel so good doing after you get started, but getting out the door isn't always easy. Bodie called Sharon while she was walking and he was crying so hard she could hardly understand what he was saying. All she could hear him say was "it just exploded" and he would cry more. She finally figured out that he was talking about his piggy bank that we gave him 3 years ago. He sat it down on the table too close to the edge and it fell off and it just "exploded" when it hit the floor. We did some talking and decided we would get him another one when we got home. We got that one at the $ store and I doubt if we will find another one like it, but we will try. Oh these crisis we have to deal with when we are so far away from the situation are sure hard sometimes!!! This evening we drove to the Casino at Valley View, CA to meet our friend Gary and Ben for dinner. Gary had 4 free dinner tickets for a prime rib dinner. The dinner was great with prime rib, baked potato, steamed veggies and salad. We played the slots and visited awhile before we headed back home.

Friday the 8th~~~~ We went for a very long enduring walk this morning that was uphill most of the way. (one & one half mile) The last 2 blocks was straight uphill, We were like two old hound dogs with our tongues hanging out when we got to the top of the second hill. LOL The good part is that it was down hill going back and we really needed that. When we got home we ate a light lunch outdoors and sat in the sun (73 degrees) and read for an hour. Today is laundry day, so Kent left to do the laundry and Sharon deep cleaned the house. On his way home with the laundry, Kent stopped and brought fish and chips home for dinner. After our lovely dinner, we played a couple of games of cards (spite & malice). It was Sharon's night for cards, as she won both games!! Yey!!!!!!!!!
Sunday the 10th~~~~ Today we took the trolley to Old Town to Mass and we ate lunch at the Mexican Rest. there. We went for a walk around the town and then we caught the bus to Mission Beach. We walked the board walk and watched the swimmers, surfers and people on the beach having fun. There were several volley ball games going on and the sidewalk was busy with bikers and roller skaters. You had to watch out for them as they would run you over if you weren't careful. Their bodies are sure in good shape from all that exercise and sunshine they get.
Part of the boardwalk is open food courts and shops, the other end is condo buildings. Their small front yards go right next to the boardwalk they have artificial turf that looks so real, Kent stopped and pulled out a blade to see. They have lovely patio furniture and BBQ grills and are so beautiful but we thought it would be like a fish in a fish bowl sitting out there with all those people going by. It sure gets chilly fast when the sun goes down, so we rode the bus back to where we left the truck and headed home.

February 4 through the 6th, 2008

Monday 4th~~~~ Sharon went for a real long walk alone today while Kent made phone calls. It really is warming up here, and walking really warms you up. Perfect weather to sit outside and read a good book.
Tuesday 5th~~~~ Our friend Gary drove over from Oceanside to go out for dinner with us tonight at the Elks club. We decided to drive to Tecate, Mexico which is only 31 miles from here. Sharon needs a new pair of glasses, so we were price checking to compare it with the US Eye Doctors. This is the town where they brew "Tecate Beer", we went to the sampling patio and tried a couple of glasses. It was most interesting to see all the people who stop there everyday on their way home from work for a glass of the free beer. A few of them spoke English we visited with them. Gary tried to speak his English-Spanish and the Mexicans didn't comprehend what he was saying. We can't believe we are only 31 miles from a major metropolitan American city and no one speaks English. We got back to the Elks too late for the taco dinner, so Sharon made us her "Italian" dish she makes so well.
Wednesday 6th~~~ After our walk this morning, we drove to "Old Town" San Diego to go to the old church there for the Ash Wednesday Mass. Every person we met there is a tourist the same as us, and all 3 of the Masses we have attended there have had a different Priest. We had a great lunch at a restaurant with outside seating in the sunshine. From there we went to the Casino and stayed for dinner. This is the casino where we got the free $20 each the other night. They also gave us each a $25 certificate for dinner which we used for dinner tonight. They had lobster,(small) king crab and a huge buffet of meats and other foods. You could go back for as much crab and lobster you wanted. Not good for Sharon and her trying to lose weight!!!! ha We enjoyed the wonderful meal but we didn't stay long as the slots weren't paying very good and we were ready to go home.

February 04, 2008

February 1,2,3, 2008

Friday the 1st~~~~ We were so tired from getting home at 7:30 AM this morning, we didn't get up until 11:00. That was only 3 1/2 hours sleep so we won't be going anywhere today. We sat and watched TV while drinking our morning coffee. Sharon cut and colored her hair and gave Kent a haircut. Then Kent took a nap while Sharon wrote on the blog and read some more in her book. Kent went out for "Chicago Pizza" to bring home for dinner while Sharon stayed home and made a salad and straightened up the suite, we are too tired for date night tonight.
Sat the 2nd, We woke up refreshed this morning and we drove to Old Town San Diego. We walked the whole town and checked out all the shops. They have a neat old Catholic Church there and Sharon really liked the Priest who reminded her of the one at Rockaway Beach in Oregon last Saturday night, so we wanted to go and see him again. He wasn't there tonight, Darn!!! After Mass we drove to the Valley View Casino and had dinner and played the slots. They gave you $20 if you got 10 points on your card, Sharon was having good luck on her machine so she got the $20 and then she took Kent's card and earned him a $2o also. We had fun with their money and came home with our $40 plus some more. ~~~~
Sunday the 3rd. Today is "Super Bowl Sunday". Kim called to tell us she was having a party at their house and everyone from Salem drove to Eugene for the party. The Rangatang Monkey at the Portland Zoo put on the New York shirt, so they are going to win. The Rangatang has never been wrong on picking the winner of the Super Bowl Game. We went over to the "Elks Club" and watched the game and ate way too much good food while we watched the game. It was a very good game and we had a great time.

January 30 & 31,2008

Wednesday 30th We went to Oceanside to the library to view the movie "Wild Hoggs" It was so funny, we really enjoyed it.
Thursday 31st Last night we received a phone call from the lady we met last week at the ball field who was signing people up to be xtra's in a Sony commercial advertising some new game or video. We were to be there at 2:30 PM today and they said we would be there about 12 hours. We wore layers of clothing and had an extra jacket in our back pack along with some water, snacks, a blanket and 2 books to read. How tough could it be sitting in a ball field cheering for a ball game, we were all primed up!!! We found out NO water bottles OR snacks were allowed in the ball field. Sharon had them under the blanket, so we were OK getting in with them. They fed us a lunch about 5 PM of hot dogs and chips and a salad after they got everyone all signed up. Then we went into the stadium for the filming, what a lot of confusion that was. We thought we would find a seat and do the commercial. WRONG!!!! They moved us all over that silly stadium so we got to cheer all over it. Everytime they set up a new scene we had to move to a new area in the stadium. They had us dress in dark colors, so we all looked alike no matter where we were cheering. They had banners for the Padre's and the Phillies and signs to hold up like they do a ball game. A 20 year old girl who was sitting by Sharon was told she couldn't wear the bright gold sweatshirt she had on. She took it off and all she had on then was a sleeveless tank top. I am sure you have figured out by now who wore the extra jacket in Sharon's bag~~~~ it was probably 53 degrees then and before the night was over, it was 44 when we finished up. Everyone was getting pretty cold and tired of it by 11 PM, so they sent us across the street to eat dinner. It was baked chicken breast with gravy over rice, steamed carrots and several salads with bread. They had lots of snack foods that everyone filled their pockets with and took back into the stadium with then. About 2 AM, they brought in some big heaters and some of us managed to go over and warm up in between shoots. To make a long story shorter, we finally got out of there at 6:15 AM. We were very cold and tired, but we did enjoy it and would do it again, only next time take more warm clothes and blankets. They said they would pay overtime after 12 hours. HA Union people were on over time after 8 hours. Some of those people had to go to work when they were released from the film, the young lady who wore our coat had to fly to New York City that afternoon for a business meeting for her company. We just had to drive home and go to bed and sleep until we felt like getting up. Life for the Mosher's is never dull, we always find something different or interesting to do.

Tuesday 29th~~~~~Today is Pammy's birthday, we sure do have a lot of December and January birthdays in Sharon's family. We both feel so young and keep so active that we don't feel our age at all. We called Pammy and wished her a happy birthday, Jeff is out of town, so she is going out for dinner tonight with Tress and the kids and her mother-in-law. ~~~~Mz. Blaize checked into the hospital at 7 AM this morning to have the penny removed at nine AM. They removed it with a pair of tongs and didn't have to go through the chest like they thought they might have have to, if it was embedded to much.
This afternoon we went to the "Olympic Training Center" with our friend Gary. He hadn't been there before. When we were there last year we met this young man named Lee Stewart who was in archery at the training center. We were so impressed with him, we wanted to get his name to follow his career. He didn't make the cut and he went home to high school in Illinois.(picture) When we left there, we stopped at a "Parachute Drop School". We watched the young men training to be "Navy Seals" do their final practice drops at the field. It was quite interesting to watch them fold that monster chute up. They were 20 minutes late with their drop and the instructor told us they couldn't jump because of the clouds at 14,000 feet. They had to have a full view of the ground. It was FFA rules that their bodies were the same as a moving object(plane) in a flight plan. The sky finally cleared up and they came out of the sky. It was a beautiful sight to see as the jumpers landed about 30 feet from us.(picture) Sightseeing around the places we stop sure gives us a opportunity to see and learn things.

Sunday 27th~~~~ Today is Williams Birthday, We gave him his present when we were home for Christmas, so we called him to see what he was doing on his Birthday and wish him a happy one.
Monday28th ~~~~ We went to Walmart today and did a little shopping. It has rained all day, so Sharon spent the day reading and Kent on the computer.
Tress called and told us that Blaize has not been eating very good the last two days. She says her tummy hurts and rubs her chest. The Doctor said she needed to come in for a checkup to check on the coin she swallowed last Thursday and hadn't passed yet. They X Rayed and there it was in her chest area. They scheduled surgery for tomorrow morning. They said copper pennies start to embed into the body if not taken out right away. Tress said taking the X Ray on her was like trying to do one on a tiger.

Saturday~~~~~ There was a blood drive at the Padres Baseball Field(pictures) in San Diego today and our friend Gary signed us up for it this morning. Sharon couldn't give blood because of hepatitus years ago and Gary's iron count was low, so Kent was the only one who donated today. The were giving away Padre shirts, so they let Gary and Sharon have a shirt anyway for trying. We sat and ate a bunch of the candy and juice while we were waiting for Kent. Ha Then we toured the field, locker and weight rooms and all of the stadium, the players were there if you wanted autographs. They also gave you a choice of 3 different fast food places where you could go for a free lunch. During lunch, a girl came and asked us if we were interested in being extras in a TV. shoot they were producing on Thursday. She said they paid you and gave you lunch and dinner, we thought it sounded like fun, so we signed up. Maybe they won't call us??? From there, we went to "Old Town", it is the first settlement of San Diego. It is old, has the neatest stores and best Mexican food. Sharon went to Mass in the very old Chapel while Gary and Kent visited and had a beer. What a fun long day it turned out to be and it really poured buckets of rain on our way home. Water, water everywhere!
