May 28 th and 29th 2008

Wednesday 28th~~~~ This morning our phone rang before we were up and it was the girls in the park asking Sharon to go bargain shopping with them. Kent is going to Mexico (12 miles) again for diesel for the truck and Howie is going with him for propane. The diesel is still $2.15 a gallon and when you need 30 gal, it is quite a savings over the $5.15 in California. Sharon and the 6 gals had a great time finding the best buy of the day in 3 different places; we all came home with several new outfits and we also went out for a lovely Mexican lunch. The fridge repair man came and fixed our fridge Yay!!!!!!! Thursday 29th~~~~Today is laundry and house cleaning day. While Kent did the laundry, Sharon baked a carrot cake to take to the cocktail party tonight with all the RVer's while she cleaned house. Have you ever grated 2 cups of TINY carrots with a "very small" grater?? well that is what was used for the fabulous carrot cake that was the hit of the party! We are leaving in the morning for Las Vegas, Kent is in a Keno Tournament on Monday.

May 16, 2008 through 27th

Friday 16th We are now in Chula Vista, it is quite warm here today and the air conditioning feels good. We are going out for pizza tonight as that is one of Kent's favorite foods and it is his birthday. we delayed starting this morning waiting for a package from Bodie and Blaize that was to have been here in time for his birthday and it still didn't come. That is aways a disappointment but typical of the Postal Service Slug Mail to take more than 6 days to get mail to us. We are at the Elk's Club here again and a lot of the people we know are here. We also visited a couple of the Casinos, with Kent's birthday in May, he got $15 gambling money and a $25 dinner certificate from one of them. Whoopee!!!!!!!! He is having fun telling them it is is birthday. ha Plus our anniversary May 6th. Sunday 18th~~~~We went to Old Town for Mass this morning and stayed for breakfast, we talked to some neat people there. Next we drove to the "Cabrillo National Monument" in San Diego.(picture of San Diego Bay with San Diego in the background) There was a man dressed like the Spanish Seaman Juan R. Cabrillo who claimed 800 miles of the Northern Coast for Spain 50 years after Columbus. It is now known as San Diego. He had the compass's and tools and dishes and dried food that they lived on while at sea. Very Interesting!!!! Next we stopped at "seaport village" right on the harbor in San Diego. We walked around the Marina and looked at all the yacts and boats tied up there. There is always a band playing and lots of people eating, drinking and dancing on the concrete. Sharon's feet were moving with the music!! What a fun busy day we had. Tuesday 20th~~~~~ This morning we drove to Otay, Mexico (San Sidro) for fuel. some of our friends drive there for gas, and we decided to cash in on the savings too. It is only 12 miles from Chula Vista where we stay and diesel here is $5.15 and gallon and in Mexico it is only $2.15. When you need 30 gal. that is quite a savings/ Sharon doesn't like to go there, as they question you at the border and have the drug dogs that are all over and it is uncomfortable she thinks. She doesn't mind walking across though. "Go Figure"!! The town is an industrial town, so no fun shopping there. Thursday 23rd~~~We did wash and Sharon cleaned the 5th wheel.
Saturday 24th We sat outside with some of our friends today in the sun just visiting and enjoying the day. We drove to Old Town to Mass and one of the couples met us for Mexican dinner later. When we got home, they came over and we played a card game of "spite and malice". They left about 10:30 PM and we stayed up and watched a movie until almost 1AM. The park is full of campers, as it is the Memorial weekend. I guess there is a picnic for all Elk's members tomorrow in the park here. It is a nice shaded area with tables and all.
Tuesday 27th~~~~~~Today is another chilly blue jeans day (64 degrees). We will be glad to get to Las Vegas where it is warm. Just before we went to the picnic yesterday, we noticed our fridge wasn't working. We got some bags of ice and put them in it and took everything out of the freezer and put it in the cooler. The repair man came this morning and will fix it tomorrow. Someone here in the park has a small fridge for us to use until then. What a pain, but we are so lucky we rarely have any problems with our rig like some people have had. Maybe we will ride the trolley today to Balboa Park. Tuesday is Sr. day and they have a lots to see and do free. There is a great art museum there. We are playing cards again tonight with our friends Cindy and Howie.

May 8th through May 15th, 2008

Thursday May 8th~~~ We arrived in Cathedral City about 2:30 PM, so we stopped at the casino before setting up for our stay here. We are staying at the "Oasis Campground," we really like this one, as it has such a nice pool, shuffle board and horse shoe pits. It is so nice and warm (hot) here with a gentle breeze blowing all the time. We set up our patio right away as we enjoy the outdoors for morning coffee. Friday 9th~~~~~We went over to visit our friends Bonnie and Ruebe who are out here visiting their daughter again while Ruebe visits his doctor. Saturday 10th~~~ We have heard so much about the College of the Desert flea market, so today was the day we went there to check it out. They really had a lot of neat booths (Jewelry, shoes, clothes, you name it) and lots of great food. Sharon bought some sandals, we didn't stay long, as it was too hot for us. We went home and played in the pool and read. We will definitely go there again when we are in Palm Springs only we will go about 9 in the morning when it is cooler. Sunday 11th~~~ Today is Mothers Day and we are invited to dinner with our friends at Brenda's house. We were with them last year on this day, and we sure had fun again.Brenda fixed a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Her pool, patio area is so beautiful, we enjoyed dinner outside. She has a big parrot who sits on his branch outside and doesn't like anyone but his owner Brenda. I should say almost anyone, as he fell in love with Kent. He sat on his shoulder, fluffed up his hair and did his crazy swing dance on the table in front of Kent over and over. He danced like a two year child does, side to side and up and down. LOL We sure had some good laughs with him. ( Picture) What a great day it was and all of my children called we had a good visit. Monday 12~~~We picked up Bonnie and Ruebe and took them out for Lunch and followed up the afternoon with cake and ice cream at their house. Tuesday 13th~~~~Today we drove to the Joshua National Park. It is named after all the Joshua trees that the pioneers followed through the desert to California. The story was quite interesting, we got our park book validated and we enjoyed our picnic lunch watching three people train to rock climb. (pictures)
Wednesday 14th~~~ Today is laundry and house cleaning day to be followed up with dinner and Karaoke at the Oasis tavern with our friends. Bonnie and Sharon had a great time singing all those old country songs they know so well. Another fun time with our S. Dak. friends. We are leaving for Chula Vista on Friday and they are going home to So. Dak. on Wednesday.

Wednesday 7th~~~~We had a short drive today, only 68 miles. We want to go to the "Crystal Palace" in Bakersfield tonight for dinner and music at the Buck Owens dinner Club to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. We were really disappointed when we found out the entertainment was Hal Ketchum and you can't go just for dinner, you have to attend the show. We opted for pizza instead as we aren't fans of Hal. LOL We really enjoyed the museum when we were here last year and looked forward to dinner and dancing.

May 2 thru 6th 2008

Friday 2nd~~~~We left Salem this morning around 11:00 stopping in Springfield at Albertson's to have lunch with Sharon's daughter at the nearby taco place. After we said our goodbyes, we drove 130 miles to the Seven Feathers Casino. We really like this campground as it is so spacious and well landscaped and has a very large heated swimming pool that we enjoyed while we were there. Kent got $5 and a nice bag of beef jerky that they make and sell. Having a birthday is a lot of fun when we stop at so many casinos. Sunday 4th~~~~We drove to the Corning, Calif. where we boon docked in the parking lot of the "Rolling Hills Casino." We had dinner there and Kent got $5.00 for his May birthday and we both got $10 each for signing up as new members. We had some luck there when we played with their money. Monday 5th~~~~We drove to Visalia, Ca. to the Elk's Club and are spending two nights here. We are going to Sequoia National Park to get our National Park Passport book validated and see the beautiful trees.(pictures) The road is real hilly and curvy, its about 28 miles up to the elevation of 5000 ft. and to the largest trees. Along the way we saw a Brown Bear Cub along the side of the road.(picture) The Sequoia trees are more than 300 feet tall and the oldest General Sherman is over 3000 years old. The burned area on the base of the trees are caused by lighting fires that have happened over the last 3000 years. The bark on the Sequoia is fire proof and that is why they are still living and only burned partially on the inside. Its a nice National Park but Kent still thinks Yosemite is the most beautiful National Park we've seen.
The 6th of May is our wedding anniversary but we are gong to celebrate it in Bakersfield when we get there. We think Buck Owen's Crystal Palace will be a fun and interesting place to have dinner.
