Thursday11~~~ We got up early and we rode the light rail to downtown New Jersey from the RV Park and then we rode the subway under the Hudson river to New York City. (Manhattan) Kent is so good at reading those subway maps and figuring out where to go, people stop and ask him for directions. Sharon thinks he is part coon dog the way he takes off and finds things, Sharon has a hard time keeping up. The subway escalator was such a steep one (picture), when we got off and got on the street, we were waiting for the traffic cop to allow us to cross the street when we heard the sound of someone getting hit by a car. Immediately the street was full of lookers (including Sharon) The traffic was so heavy and it was amazing how fast the ambulance got there to transport the lady. The traffic cops just kept blowing their whistles and waving their arms faster to move people on. It was kind of erie when I saw who was hit by the car, it was the lady in front of us on the escalator. She had on such a beautiful skirt, I recognized her right away. The taxi who hit her had a damaged windshield where her head must have hit. They put a neck collar on her and transported her. We continued on to the Empire State Building where we took some pictures. Then back on the subway to "Grants Tomb" It was a beautiful building and they have Mrs. Grant buried next to President Grant. (pictures) it was about 6 blocks and uphill away from where we got off the subway, needless to say we were pooped when we got there. Next we took another subway to "Times Square", that was an interesting, very busy place with even more people coming and going. (pictures) We finished up the day by walking for what felt like miles to the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt. (picture) It was such a beautiful home right in the heart of downtown New York City. We really enjoyed the museum here. From here we took another subway ride to SOHO and upscale yuppie area that has all kinds of clothing stores and young well dressed people walking from store to store. One more final subway ride home in which we were really glad to be back to our home. What a full day in New York City!
