september 4, 2008 part 1

Thursday 4~~~ We rode the train into Boston this morning so we didn't have the parking problem with the truck we had yesterday. I didn't write yesterday that there was a parking structure where we wanted to go, but the top of the truck hit the bar they have there to tell if you are too tall. We didn't want another experience of taking off the top of our rig, like the air conditioner on the 5th wheel. The first place we went to was 83 Beals Street, the first home of Joseph and Rose Kennedy where on May 29, 1917 John F Kennedy was born in the master bedroom of this modest home in Brookline, Mass. The Kennedy's lived there until 1920, where they had 4 children (Joe, John and 2 girls) The house was close to play grounds, a Catholic Church and good schools. The house is very charming, the 2 boys slept in one room and the 2 girls in another and Joe and Rose in theirs. All the rooms had twin beds, but they managed to raise 9 children. LOL It is completely furnished with furniture, dishes and pictures that was theirs. It was turned over to the National Parks System so a lot of people get to enjoy seeing it. They showed a video narrated by Rose Kennedy and they added more to it after her death which was narrated by Teddy Kennedy. It was very interesting and you could see how close their families were from day one. (Pictures) From here we went and ate lunch at a Greek Pizza place ( delicious) and walked to the home of Henry W. Longfellow. This home is also noted for fame for the fact that George Washington lived in it for 9 months before the war. It is a beautiful huge house like most of the homes here seem to be.
