Friday 10~~~ Today we are heading for Montgomery, Alabama, it is a cool day with some dark clouds which we think they will burn off shortly. We really had a rain storm last night, it was raining so hard that the rain pouring off the corners of the trailer was washing the miserable sand away that is everywhere in this state. The camper beside us was putting white powder beside all of his jacks and anything that touched the ground, I asked him what he was doing if that was ant killer and he showed me the can. It was COMET with bleach, he said it keeps the FIRE ANTS that are all over here in the sand from entering his camper. They are very small aggressive ants that can really bite you and make you very sick. We stopped at the Lane processing plant to take the peach tour, but peaches are already done so we bought some pecans and peach pepper jelly. We stopped in Tuskegee and we visited the National Park Museum on the college campus for George Washington Carver, his life was very interesting and his paintings beautiful, he was a brilliant man. In the same museum was the life of Booker T Washington and we saw his home on the Campus which was closed for renovation. (picture) Next we went to Tuskegee Field that was having a reunion of the Tuskegee Black Air force and the celebration of the new hanger that was modeled after the old one from World war II. They had all the old planes there flying and the families for the pilots and it was a real celebration. There is a movie on those brave men who had to prove to the world that a Black person was as smart and quick thinking and capable of leading in war as any white man and the complete story of them. We stayed there and watched the action for and hour and then we headed to our campground to set up and call it a day.( the pictures of the old planes are too far away to see how neat they are). When we got to our campground, Kent was outside hooking up the electricity when Sharon heard him yelling and slapping at his feet. He had stood on a Fire Ant ant hill and they were attacking him. Sharon grabbed the bug spray can on her way out the door and started spraying his feet, he already had his sandals off, as they were in his shoes biting the tops and bottoms of his feet. Sharon was immediately bit by them also, on her hand and one toe. It is the worst sting I think we have ever experienced and the fastest. Kent went to the office and told them what happened and they sent him home with a can of powder and some citrus flavored Listerine. We bathed his feet and legs in it and it really helped the itching. We got on the computer and studied about them and they can be very dangerous and the bites serious if not treated properly. The campground also gave Kent powder to sprinkle on the hills by our camper. Kent used half of the can of powder. No more ants from those hills. (picture) Sharon cooked a good steak dinner and we watched TV the rest of the evening. There is never a dull day with the traveling Mosher's.
