March 14 through the 16, 2009

Saturday 14~~~~ This morning before we were dressed, someone knocked hard on our door and there stood the neatest dressed boy scout. They were having a pancake breakfast at the Elks Club this morning, so we hurried and got dressed and we went over there to eat. They had a raffle for some small items, so we bought some tickets, and while we were busy eating our pancakes, they called our number and came over and told us we had won a prize. They knew it was us, because they started using red tickets when we bought ours and the rest were yellow. We got quite a chuckle out of all of it, and Sharon found a cute spoon holder for the prize. The temperature today is 81 degrees. Sunday 15~~~~Today we drove to Palm Springs to the College of the Desert where they have a very large flea market, we got there about noon and it closes at 2:30, so we didn't have much time to look at things and we didn't even buy anything either. It is fun to see all the different things they have there though. Sharon found a whole tent full of the dresses, tops, shorts and pants, the same clothes some ladies used to stop and the beauty shop and sell to us ladies. Nancy and Sharon were good customers for them and what a time we had trying on all those clothes, modeling them for all our ladies and trying to get their hair done while the sales ladies when out to their van to find more sizes and colors for us. It was a trip down memory lane shopping at that store today, I just wish Nancy was there with us.
Monday 16~~~~~Kent spent the day with our friend Gary, they went to Palm Springs and all over. Sharon stayed home and wrote on her journals, part of the day inside and part of the day in the sun. (picture) It was too beautiful a day to stay inside all day. When they got home, we drove over to the "Date Factory (picture) to see how the dates here grow and how they are harvested, it was very interesting. The date trees (picture) and the palm trees look so much alike to a non-local person like me. The guys had a date shake and I had to pass on one as I gave us sweets for Lent. I have had them before and they are sooooo good, we had to be convinced of that before we were sure we would try them. That evening we went to the Elk's for Taco night. They had a full house and they ran out of taco's and had to turn people away. We have learned that you don't wait until later to go eat as they quite often run out of food, so they don't have any waste I think. The first tree picture is the palm trees in our camp ground, the second tree picture is the date palm tree at the date factory. Don't they look alike????
