Thursday 28~~~~~We stayed at the Rolling Hills Casino tonight, we pulled in rather late and by the time I fixed one of Kent's favorite meals, we watched TV and went to bed. We didn't even go to the casino. We will get enough of that when we get to Mesquite where our friend Gary lives and then on to Vegas to spend 3 days with my sister Jan and her husband Bob in Vegas. We have generaters now that are really neat to hook up and give us electricity when we boon dock in the parking lots. Last year we didn't have them and it got chilly a few night with out power to hook up to. It is so exciting to be on the road with a calendar full of people to see and places to go. Friday 29~~~~~ Today is Pammy's birthday and I called her just before she left for work. This is the hard part of traveling is missing all the birthday parties and dinners. We drove to Fernley, Nevada just a few miles East of Reno. There was a snow storm predicted all day today, we were going to stay in Sacramento, Ca. but we decided to keep driving and get across the "Donner Pass" before the storm hit so we drove on and it was dark when we set up camp. The camp host said to just take a spot and check in the morning. Saturday 30~~~When we woke up this morning, it was snowing and cold. There is a lot of snow all over here, so we look forward to getting to Mesquite where it is warmer. We passed a "Cabelas" store on the way here, so we went shopping there for Kent to buy a couple of warm shirts to wear in this cold weather. From there we went to Mass at the beautiful Catholic Church in Reno, we went out for Chinese food after Mass and then we stopped at the "Peppermill Casino" for a short time before heading back to Fernley where we are staying. It is so cold, I don't even want to go outside.

Monday 25~~~~ After our morning coffee and giving Mike a haircut, we left for Canyonville to the Seven Feathers Camp ground. We always stop there on our way through for a couple of nights. We like the pool and we usually have it to ourselves. Not many people use the pool in the winter time or maybe I should say not many older people use the pool. I am really enjoying the pools in all the campgrounds we stay in and I am not afraid of the water anymore, I do a swim stroke the length of the pool and back many times with my noodle to help keep me up in the deep water if I get tired. Kent will finally let me stay in the pool alone now that I am doing so good. Maybe by the time we retire from the road, I will be a swimmer!!!!Today is Thresa's birthday, I called her and we had a nice visit. Tuesday 26~~~~ We walked from the campground to the casino, so that was a nice hike. The weather has been cold and rainy most of the time here. Wednesday 27~~~ Today is Williams birthday, I called him to wish him a happy day, he was driving so I didn't talk to him very long as with this new law of no talking on the phone while driving, the ticket about $170 is pretty steep. Friday is Pammy's birthday, so we sure do have a lot of birthdays this week. We have been concerned about the weather since we left home in Salem, we were really lucky as the "Siskiyou's" pass was clear with little snow when we went through today, they had a duzy of a storm while we stayed in Eugene. Our son in law Mike kept us posted by calling his family who live on both sides of the pass, so we knew it was going to be clear when we left today unless another storm moved in right behind the last one. We are leaving for Corning, California in the morning, it is about 247 miles away. We want to cross the "Donner Pass" while the weather is holding out.

November 13 through 16, 2009

Friday 13~~~~~ We went to the beach house for the weekend today, stopping at the casino for lunch on the way. Cindy, Erik and Nathan arrived late in the evening. The weather is wet and windy but what do you expect, it is the beach and November. It is my favorite time of the year for the beach, as I love the large waves that come crashing on the shore and the huge logs that it brings in with the tide. It makes you wonder where all those trees and logs come from out in the ocean. The "Twin Rocks" (picture) that Rockaway Beach is so famous for were beautiful in the haze. Our rock wall that protects us from the ocean is getting shorter from all the sand that the sea has piled up by the bank, we need a real high tide to come in and wash the sand away from the wall and clean it out. Saturday 14~~~~ Cindy made a great breakfast of pancakes and scrambled eggs, then we went for a drive down the coast so Cindy could take some pictures with her new camera she just bought. My camera doesn't catch things as good, but I still like the pictures of everything. The one picture is of the crab traps all covered with the barnicles from the sea. I thought it was quite different, so I took a picture of them. Pepsi loves his perch on the stair steps where he can see everything that goes on. (picture) After we drove home, I wrote in my children's books while waiting to go out for Chicken and Jo's at the "Bay view Tavern". We always go there when we go to the beach, it has the coldest beer and the best broasted chicken and Jo Jo's of any place we have ever been to. Kent and I really miss this place when we are on the road, we try a lot of places trying to find a place with chicken this good. Sunday 15~~~~The weekend is over and the kids head for home, Kent and I are staying an extra day as we have the luxury of being retired and can do that now. Monday 16~~~~The ocean is really rough today and the water is coming in real close the stone wall, not strong enough to wash away the sand or carry the big logs that trap all the sand, back out to sea. I really enjoy writing in my books sitting at a table in front of the big windows, (picture) I am getting close to the end of them and I will have them ready for Christmas if I keep working steady at them. I am so excited over these books and I know the kids will love them.

Saturday 23~~~~ We left this morning heading South stopping in Eugene to visit the Madden"s as we didn't get to see much of them while we were home. Kim and Mike had a prior dinner invitation for dinner tonight, so Kent and I took Matt and Pamela out for pizza and we had a great time with just the grand kids and us. They open up and talk and share more when their parents aren't there and it was real enjoyable. After dinner, Kent drove around and he showed us where he lived as a little boy when he lived in Eugene before moving to Portland and Madras, all in one year. Kent described the apartment he lived in and how he remembered the house across the street where the neighbors killed a chicken one day, he remembered the chicken running around with no head. When we got there, the house and his apt. were exactly as he said it would be, he thought they might be tore down, but they weren't. I imagine back then people raised their own chickens in their own back yards. Mathew, Pamela and I enjoyed going down memory lane with Kent while he told us about his time living in Eugene. Sunday24~~~~ The weather today is pretty chilly here, Kim has another baby lamb, their sheep are all black, and this baby is all white??? They named her snowball! I gave Kim and Pamela hair cuts and I weaved Pamela's hair. She has long thick hair, so it took me a long time to do it but it was real pretty when we got done. Kim fixed us her famous Chicken Alfredo dish she makes for dinner, it was very good with hot bread and salad. Pamela gave her Bunika (Me) a nice manicure and a neck massage for doing her hair, I really enjoyed that. We are leaving for Seven Feathers in the morning where we will stay a couple of nights. Pamela heading for school with her new haircut and color! (picture)

Friday 15~~~~~ Tress and the kids rode to the beach with Kent and I, stopping at the casino to eat a late lunch on the way. Blaize didn't understand why she couldn't go play on the slot machines, she said she does at "Chuckie Cheese". LOL We drove my car so we could put our luggage in the trunk to keep it dry, so we were a little crowded with Pepsi wandering around walking all over our laps. We got there in time for a nice long walk on the beach so the kids could gather sea shells. It is supposed to be a high sea this weekend, so that will be fun for them to watch from the house. Corey got here about 10:30 PM. Saturday 16~~~~~Tress and the kids were up when we woke up, watching the ocean and cartoons. Pepsi is having a ball chasing their new kitty named Milly all over the house up and down the stairs! It is a rainy day, typical for the beach in the winter. After a breakfast of Pancakes and eggs, we left in two vehicles to tour around the shops and go out to the jetty. Kent and I brought the kids home and Tress and Cory shopped the beach shops in peace with no kids, that evening I stayed home and babysat Bodie and Blaize while Kent, Tress and Cory went out to our favorite Chicken and Joe"s Pub, they went to another one in our town and Tress and Cory played pool while Kent watched. We put together some easy puzzles and the kids had fun just being at the beach house. Sunday 17~~~~~Today is going home day, the weekend sure went by fast, Bodie has a birthday party to go to and I have a Dr. appointment Monday morning in Portland. I wish we could have stayed few days longer.
