Monday 22~~~~Here are a few pictures of Laughlin, Nevada at night taken by Kent. We are trying to learn how to use our new camera. The sunrise was so beautiful on this morning, I tried to capture the sun behind the clouds; by the time I got the camera out and the lens on, the beautiful streaks of sunlight were gone and all I got was the sun behind the clouds. Darn! We moved our camp to the Avi Campground this morning where we will stay until Thursday. We did laundry and cleaned house today. I still don't feel very good and I don't have the energy to write emails to anyone. We can't decide where we are headed. We can't get into the campground at Apache Junction where Mel and Linda are yet, so I think we are heading into Yuma for a couple of weeks. We love the Escapee's campground in Yuma, AZ. The people are so friendly, they play a lot of cards, have an ice cream social every Sunday evening and Saturday morning breakfast. They have the largest shuffle board here and I really want to learn how to play it good!!! Tuesday 23~~~~ I got a haircut today and it is the shortest I have ever had it, I feel like a skinned peanut, but it grows so fast, it will be fine. The operator had so many tattoos and rings in her nose, that if she hadn't been recommended to me by a lady with a cute haircut, I would have been terrified of her. Kent loves it, but it will have to grow a little for me to be comfortable with it. LOL (picture) Thursday 25~~~~~This morning we went over to the Casino for a late breakfast before we head for Yuma, this way we won't have pack a lunch. They showed us our table and we headed to the buffet. Kent always likes their special omelets, so I had my plate filled first and I headed back to our table. Last week in Laughlin, the restaurants buffet room was so big. I couldn't find my way back to our table and after wandering around for awhile, I called Kent on my phone to find me. ha We discussed how it must feel to have Alzheimer's and be that confused everyday. Well this morning as I sat at our table waiting for Kent to get his omelet and join me, a couple stopped at our table and stood there looking at me. I asked them what they wanted; they said I was sitting at their table. I instantly thought I must be lost again and now I sat at someone else's table and where was Kent????? Now I was sure I had Alzheimer's, the lady was sort of upset, but her husband was very nice and he said they would just find another table. I was beginning to think maybe that was why Kent was taking so long to get an omelet, he was probably at another table waiting for me. Just then the people at the table next to me spoke up and told the couple that we were seated there first and right after we left to go fill our plates, another host gave them the same table and I had it first. I was so happy I could have kissed them, I was OK, I wasn't lost with Alzheimer's after all. Just then Kent showed up and all was fine, the breakfast was great, we thanked the couple for speaking up and getting involved, a lot of people wouldn't have done it. We left for Yuma stopping in Quartzite to visit some high school friends of mine (Donnie & Velda Zingler) who are boon docking there for 2 weeks. We have been trying to catch up with each other for some time and what a great visit we had. Velda said our jaws should be hurting from talking so fast trying to catch up on all these years apart. We will be together again next week doing some sight seeing. Friday 26~~~~The weather here in Yuma is 78 and that is perfect for us. Yesterday I sat outside in the sun reading my book while Kent dozed in his chair and I fell asleep reading my book. The sun sure feels good for my cold and cough. Pepsi loves having the door open to sit and look outside. (picture) My sister called me last night with a good over the counter cough syrup to buy that she hopes will help me get better.

February 16 through 21, 2010

We really haven't done much of anything this week as I have not felt good all week with this cold and my asthma kicking in to make it worse. We walked the River Front a few times and went out for dinner one night and for a Buffet Breakfast one morning. I feel a little better in the morning and as soon as I start doing anything that requires any energy, I start coughing and that wears me out. Kent is slowly getting over his, but he has had his since January 23. On Friday 19th I finally broke down and decided to go to urgent care and get something for this cold. I am tired of sleeping on the couch half the night or sitting up in bed. The Dr. listened to my lungs and said there was a lot of rattling in there and he ordered a chest xray. I didn't have pneumonia but I did have bronchitis which I seem to get every year anymore. He gave me a 5 day antibiotic and sent me on my way. Saturday we went to Mass and we stopped at Kentucky Fried and picked up dinner to take home. I did not even feel like going out for dinner. Sunday 21~~~ Kent was in a Keno Tournament at the Avi Casino today and he did pretty good. He took third place, but was in 1st place until the end when someone got a good bet. I played every slot machine in the place while I waited for Kent's tournament to end, actually it was OK, as I kept winning enough to keep me playing and it was fun. I should have stopped and took home some money, but that would be no fun, so I came home with only $3 extra dollars. ha Kent was a happy man, he sure wished his friend Gary was here to play with him in selecting the combinations and such and someone to talk to. There was no extra chairs for me to sit with him, so he did it alone. When we got home I was really feeling rotten from the smoke and all and I had a fever. I dozed most of the evening and for dinner, I was hungry for some cold ice cream. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

Monday 15~~~~~After a week in Vegas, we are headed for Laughlin, Nevada where we will stay a week. We still have our colds. Kent is better with his, he has had his 3 weeks now. I have been sleeping half the night on the couch, as I can breathe better there and my coughing doesn't disturb Kent' s sleep. I will sure be happy to be on the mend again and on the go. Kent will go stir crazy if we don't get out and start doing something soon. The weather is so nice and warm, 72 degrees, that should cure us. We went to 3 movies at Sam's Casino while we stayed there. The movie theatres are so nice and modern, not real busy in the afternoons, but we don't care, it is nicer. One movie had only 4 couples in, so there was a good choice of seats. We went to "Blind Side" (wonderful) "Edge of Darkness" Mel Gibson (Great) and "Extraordinary Measures" Good) We never go to the movies, but the casino ones are inexpensive and something to do on a quiet day in our busy lives!! LOL Cindy and Erik went to the beach house on February 7th, there was a huge log in front of our house that the ocean had washed ashore. Erik is a tall person and the log is taller than him. I wonder what kind of a storm it will take to wash it back out to sea. (picture) It is always fun to go to the beach in the winter time and wave watch.

Saturday 6~~~~Bob and Jan are supposed to arrive in Vegas at 9:30 AM this morning so we were leaving here early to get checked in and set up, about the time we were to leave, Jan called and they were still in Denver and wouldn't be in Vegas until 7:30 PM. They got to Denver late because of weather, missed their plane connection the airport was socked in with a terrible heavy fog, she said she would keep us updated as things got better. We left for Vegas and the rain started, what a dreary day it was turning out to be, it takes about an hour to drive from Mesquite to Vegas so we arrived there early and waited for their phone call. About 9:30 PM they called, they were checked in and heading to bed as they had been up since 4:00 AM and we would see them in the morning. Our friend Gary drove up to watch the Super Bowl with us tomorrow, so he slept on our hide a way and he and Kent went over to the casino while I stayed home and read a book and fell asleep early. I feel a cold coming on!!!! Sunday 7~~~~ We drove to the Luxor Casino this morning where Bob, Jan and their friends were staying, the guys were playing the slots, Kent and Gary went to the Red Rock casino where they could play Keno. Jan and I found a sort of quiet lounge and we sat and visited and exchanged pictures on our kids and grandchildren. Then she caught me up on our classmates in Kimball, South Dakota from our graduation class of 1960 as our big 50 reunion is coming this year. I hope to go back home for it if anyone is going to be there. We watched the game in their friends Suite the casino compted for them. It was a little cozy but we had a large flat screen and a smaller television in the bedroom , 2 bathrooms, one with a television. We had a lot of fun and no smoke or Casino noise, lots of cold beer and some snacks. After the game we went back to the casino where Jan and I played $10.00 each on the same slot machine together for 2 and 1/2 hours. We didn't win anything, but we had fun talking and drinking hot Kahlua and coffee to help my voice from my cold I seem to have caught. We went home about 11:30 PM Monday 8~~~~We slept in later today and we didn't join the Nebraska gang until afternoon. On the way there, we stopped at the Pawn Shop that has the reality show that is on the History Channel. We watched it in Salem all the time, Billy and Tress got us hooked on it. They were taping a TV show while we were there, so we didn't get to see Rick, but we did see the old man (picture) and the two goofy helpers who make the show funny. It was so full of people , you could hardly move, we went single file (picture) through the store and out the door. I wonder how he sells anything with so many people like us in there to see them and the store. He sure has an inventory and his collection of NFL Rings were sure interesting with it being Super Bowl Weekend. I wonder why anyone would sell their NFL ring!!!! It was another fun day with may sister, catching up and enjoying the slots. Jan had lots of money to spend and I didn't, as they are on vacation and this is my life style everyday, so I helped her find some fun machines and watched her play and cheered her on as I enjoyed my Kahlua and coffee. ha The slots were so tight, I spent my allowance real fast, I don't think anyone won anything on them, but Vegas is always fun to go to and you know when you go there the odds of winning anything is slim!!!! We had another great buffet dinner at the Mandalay Bay Casino, they had to pack to be up by 4 AM to catch their plane to head home in the morning, so we went back to our Suite on Wheels tired and tuckered out from all our fun.

Monday 1~~~~~We arrived in Mesquite about 4:00 and our friend Gary was at the campground where we stay parked in our spot waiting for us to get there. We got all set up and we drove to the Casino for dinner and some visiting with Gary. We will be here all week, heading to Vegas on Saturday to see my sister and her husband from Nebraska. Tuesday 2~~~~ Kent and Gary are in Keno tournaments today and I have my book along to read while I wait to go to lunch. Wednesday 3~~~~ Kent entered me in a slot tournament this morning which I did pretty good in. I was in second place for most of the morning and then down to 10th position ($250) for a couple more games and then the last two games there were several high scores, and I lost!! Darn Thursday4~~~~~We had lunch today with our friend Gail who lives here, her husband Dan was working. After lunch the three of us went bowling, it has been a lot of years since any of us have bowled and we didn't do so good. The 3rd game I finally went over 100, Kent and Gary bowled a 4th game, but I was tired so I watched the good bowlers to see what we did wrong. LOL What a fun day it was and I think we will do it again. Friday5~~~~We spent the afternoon at Gary's condo doing our laundry and visiting. It is so warm and beautiful here, I see why people love to live here. Lisa wrote me about Ray's last swimming meet for the year and how good he did. He received 8 medals, 3 gold, 3 silver 1 bronze and 1 participant. He was a very happy young man and swimming is his sport of choice. We sure were proud of him. (picture)

Sunday 31~~~~We drove 270 miles today stopping at our favorite little hamburger stand in Mina, Nevada arriving at Tonapah about four o"clock. It was so cold we didn't even go outside or over to the the casino there, we ate dinner and watched television and went to bed. Tomorrow we will be in Mesquite where it is warm. Monday Feb 1~~~~ On the road about 9:30 this morning, it sure is cold and the mountains are beautiful with all the snow on them. I am reading my book and Kent keeps telling me I should be taking some pictures with my new camera. Once I got started it was fun and we pulled over several times to take different shots. We got so involved with the scenery and the steam coming out of the hills. We missed our turn to Highway 375 heading to Mesquite. Highway 375 is the "Extraterrestrial Highway" where all the sightings of "Aliens" and "Area 51" is . maybe that is why we missed our turn, the aliens misguided us. LOL There was nothing we could do but keep going and try to find a place to turn the rig around. We are pretty good at turning around , as I have wrote stories about previous experiences. Kent drove until he found a trail off the road heading across the pasture to probably some cattleman's ranch. He drove in there and I grabbed the camera and got out to do my job of stopping Kent or the traffic which ever works out the best. There was some snow on the trail, so Kent had to put the truck in 4 wheel drive to back up the slight incline. We have driven miles and only saw 3 hay trucks traveling together, 2 pick ups and one car, so the odds of anyone coming up the road were slim, so I took the pictures of Kent turning around again with "THE LONG TRAILER". I think of that movie quite often during our travels. Kent said he thought I was crazy when he looked in the mirrors and saw me taking pictures and not watching the road or guiding him while he backs up. I told him it was OK as I could see for a mile each way, remember we are out in the middle of nowhere. I was wearing a shirt and vest and I was shocked when I got in the truck and noticed the temperature was 18 degrees. (Kent's version) The real story was that luckily Sharon was taking pictures and didn't realize we had gotten stuck, with the 5th wheel wheels in a ditch. We couldn't go forward but with a "what the hell did I get us into attitude," I managed to back out of the ditch . LOL
