January 31, 2016 Palm Springs

We went back to Cindy and Erics and we parked our motor home in front of the house and we drove their rented car and did some sight seeing. We have been here so many times, Kent knows the town like he knows Portland. Cindy wanted to shop in the Hobby Lobby store, but it was closed on Sunday. We will come back another time. We drove out to the Desert Flowers Park and Cindy took a lot of pictures of flowers, trees and squirrels. She got a neat picture of a humming bird I will post. We went to this park last year with my friend Bonnie and they had a lot of Rangers and park people there and tents with all kinds of neat desert crafts and things. It was getting dusk when we finished touring around, so we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. We were all about starved from all the walking we did looking at everything. We ate two baskets of chips and salsa while we waited for our dinner. We all ordered something differend and everyone was pleased with their dinner. We drove back to their place and got our home on wheels and headed to the Elks Club where we are staying this week. Having our motor home, we can park it anywhere and we don’t have to pack bags for over night, we have it all with us. The security at the resort told Kent we could park our motor home overnight in front of their place, he said Kent parked it so nice and close to the curb and the street was wider there . We didn’t want to maybe cause a problem, so we declined as it is a short distance to the Elks Club where we stay.Tomorrow Eric is going golfing, so we will be taking Cindy sight seeing.

The wind was really blowing hard some of those days and I took a picture  of Kent dashing to the house with the computer, with the wind so strong he could hardly walk against it. The palm trees were really stretched out with the force also.

January 30, 2016 Palm Springs

We stayed last night at the Casino 29 and today we are headed over to the Palm Desert Country Club where we will be visiting Kents daughters for a week.. The weather is great and the golf course is beautiful. We sat on the patio watching the golfers chip up to the green and buzz by in their golf carts. We sure saw some fancy golf carts. This is a totally different way of life down here, total relaxation in the sun, with a hot tub and pool at every home. We didn’t stay too late as they had an early flight and were tired. I am still fighting my cough and was ready to get my PJ’s on and watch TV in bed myself.

January 28, & 29 2016 Palm Springs, California

Thursday January 28: Palm Springs California

It was dark when we arrived in Palm Springs, Ca. We were both pretty tired, all we wanted to do was eat and go to bed. We really slept good in the parking lot of the Casino 29.  We have been here before and it is nice and quiet. We had a nice dinner and played a few slots and went back to our home on wheels and watched a couple of TV shows and went to bed. I hope to see my friend Bonnie tomorrow. Kent's daughters are flying here for a weeks stay, so we will be busy doing things with them. Then we are heading to Vegas to spend a few days with my sister and Bob. This has turned out to be an annual event to watch the Super Bowl on TV in the Casino and spend a few days catching up with each other. I really like Peyton Manning, so I will be watching the game a lot closer than I sometimes do. LOL

Friday 29th  Today is Pammy's birthday, Happy Birthday Pammy!!!  We are in Palm Springs waiting for Kent's girls to get here. We planned to visit my girlfriend Bonnie from South Dakota but we didn't call soon enough and she was not home. We were busy doing things we needed to  get done and some shopping. It was a nice warm day here today but tomorrow it is supposed to be very windy and wet. We are used to that, so we don't mind. Tomorrow Kent will take me to Bonnies and I will spend the day with her.  We are staying at the Elks Club here tonight where it is nice and quiet. Not sure where we will be the rest of the week yet. Not much to write, will sign off.

January 28, 2016 Crystal Palace Bakersfield, California

Today we drove from Sacramento to Bakersfield, California. We got fuel at Costco @$1.99 a gallon. We are averaging 16 miles per gal. and that isn't too bad compared to what some people are paying. I fixed us ham sandwiches and veggies for lunch before we went to the "Crystal Palace". Kent wasn't interested in seeing all the Buck Owens memorabilia and it was close to his Star Bucks "frappe", so he dropped me off there and I had a great time taking a ton of pictures and eating in that beautiful ballroom and dancing on the large dance floor to the music of Buck Owens and other famous singers of the time. I really like Buck Owens & Dwight Yokum singing the "Streets of Bakersville".I was born to late to get in on the good old days of country music, I remember singing with my sister Jan and we did a fine job with those old country songs. Now we have karaoke with the music to sing those songs of long ago. Kent got lost picking up his frappe, so I had all the time I needed taking pictures and looking at everything. Maybe next time we go through here, we will stop for dinner and a show with music and dancing. They say the food is fantastic. We pulled into Palm Desert after dark staying in a parking lot of a casino. We had a good dinner there and played the slots for one hour.

January 28 Arriving in Palm Springs

Kent dropped me off at Bonnies house and He drove over and did the laundry while we had a few hours to visit. We have a lot of catching up to do.  We are staying at the Elks Club here for one night and then we are headed to the Desert Horizons Golf Course where we will be staying with Kent's daughters for a week. I took this picture of a long freight train that was out my window. The sunsets here on the desert are just gorgeous. A picture doesn't catch the full effect, but it gives  you an idea. Tomorrow we will meet Cindy and Eric. Dee Dee will be here on Thursday.

On The Road Again! January 20th through January 27th 2016

Santa bought us new computer for Christmas, so I had better get going on a new blog of our travels. We were late getting on the road this year because of Dr. and dentist appointments and other things that slowed us down. We are finding that getting older has its disadvantages, there is more up keep, kind of like an old car, you have to do more to keep it running. The advantages are that you have all the time in the world to do things or you can choose not to do things till you want to. That is one of Kent's problems, he puts getting things done as we have plenty of time to do it and then at the last minute we don't get it done. I caught a bad cold a few days before we were ready to leave and I still have it. I think one more week and I will be up  and running.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016: Eugene, Oregon

We got up early and started loading the motor home. We have to take warm and cold clothes. Thresa and the kids stopped in for a few minutes on their way home from school to say goodby. We finally finished up about 5 PM and off we headed to Eugene where we are spending the night at Kim and Mikes house. We stopped at the Burger Basket on our way out of town to get a burger, it is Kent's favorite place to eat a burger. We arrived there about 7PM and we had a nice evening together, Kim and I went in the living room and drank tea and visited while the guys watched a movie in the family room. We spent the night in our motorhome.

Thursday January 21: Florence, Oregon and Canyonville, Oregon
This morning I gave Kim and Mathew haircuts and Mike and Kent went for a sightseeing drive, we left here about 3PM heading for Florence, Oregon to spend the night.

Friday January 22: We got a late start this morning, I was awake a lot last night coughing. Not feeling so good. We arrived in Canyonville at the Seven Feathers casino after dark, it has poured down rain everyday since we left home. That is good though because it is so dry all over here. We are staying in the dry camping area and there aren't very many RVers here. We love having a built in generator where we can start it and have TV and heat. It sure saves on the pocket book. Pammy and Kim gave me a sack of good books, so I am all taken care of.

Saturday January 23: Seven Feathers Casino Canyonville, Oregon

We ate dinner in the Casino and I finally slept better last night. After breakfast, I went back to bed and fell right to sleep, this constant coughing just wears me out. Kent went over to the casino and played the slots for awhile and had the buffet lunch before coming home. I slept the whole time. We called the shuttle in the evening and we spent a little time in the casino before going home to bed. It is rain, rain and more rain here, I really love the sound of it on the roof of the motor home while we sleep, so peaceful!

Sunday January 24: Yreka, Ca.

Our Friend Sue

Woke up to a light mist, we had to fill up our water tanks, glad it wasn't pouring down rain. We went through Grants Pass, stopping at Medford, we bought fuel at Fred Meyer here and it was $1.69 a gallon. Kent was all excited over that. There is snow all over the mountains here, the pass was clear and we had no trouble. We stopped at Star Bucks in Yreka, Calif. Here we met a family friend Sue here, we treated her to a star bucks coffee and we up dated our phones and I pads and Kent showed Sue how to do hers. She goes there for coffee every day on her morning walk. What a great visit we had with Sue, but soon it was time to hit the road again heading to Corning where we will be spending the night at the Rolling Hills Casino.

Monday January 25: Corning, California
Today is Thresa's birthday!!! I tried to send her a singing, dancing birthday card with 3 cute frogs in a band. I went through all the steps to send it and they said they used up all they could send today, try tomorrow!!!!It DARN, THAT WAS NOT FUNNY!!!! Near Sacramento,we stopped at a new (to us) Casino that Kent had read about. It is called "Thunder Valley Casino". We dry camped in the Casino parking lot across the road where the truckers and big RVs park. They have a phone number to call and they come and pick you up. We ate dinner and donated $20 to the slots. I am coughing so much and feel tired from it all, so we didn't stay long. Back to the motorhome to my good book and warm bed. LOL
Tuesday January 26: Wednesday Near Sacramento, California
We slept in late and we decided to spend another night here resting up. This evening we went back to the casino Thunder Valley and we played the slots awhile and Kent won. Back to the camper to watch TV, read my book and start writing on my blog. Back on the road tomorrow.

Wednesday January 27: Bakersfield, Ca.
Today is Willian's birthday!! Happy birthday William! We are driving as far as Bakersfield Ca. We stayed at a neat campground called the "Desert Palms" we filled our water tanks and dumped our tanks. This park was a Passport America Park and it only cost $15 a night. We camped by a neat lady who is new to RVing, she has the neatest motor home ever. She is sure a brave woman to drive that motor home and park it and do all the things herself. Kent gave her a lot of ideas about things we had to learn when we started out. We hope to run into her again. I cooked a good meal in the motor home tonight. No casino, just TV and our I Pads. I have a neat crossword puzzle that I spend a lot of time figuring it out. I like this town where the Crystal Palace is and the streets are all named after the famous county singers who started out here. I sure would love to run into Dwight Yokum on the "Streets of Bakersfield" here.. He and Buck Owens are still two of my old time favorites.
