August 6, 7, 2016 George Rogers Clark National Park ,Vincennes, Indiana

Saturday August 6th     We left Nashville heading to the "George Rogers Clark"  Historic Park" on our way to Moscow, Iowa.  Arriving at the Park, we stop first at the visitors center, we have our National Parks book stamped with the date and location where we are.  The Rangers here have so much knowledge and love to share it with you. Most National Parks have a  movie to view in a very nice room with very comfortable chairs. I have noticed in our many years of several hundred National Parks, Battlefields, Monuments and more, the tourists seem to be more interested in what is in the gift shop than the history of the place they are at. Sometimes it is just Kent and I watching the movie. George Rodgers Clark was William Clarks brother thats the Clark of Lewis and Clark. George was asked to form the Kentucky militia he would command 350 men to conquer  3 towns in Kentucky and Illinois which were controlled by the British and French sympathizers. The French also were Friends with the local Indians so the British had quite a defense of the 3 cities and Fort Detroit . George tried to recruit his men but there wasn't 350 men available all he could recruit were 150 men. The mission was top secret so he couldn't tell the men what they would be doing only that they would be fighting the British. He trained the men to be sharp shooters and went to the Indians and asked them to come over and fight with his troops, which they did. After approaching the British with gun fire and taking over the 3 major cities he was able to conquer Fort Detroit. These activities weakened the British control west of the Appalachians and Clarks efforts helped the United States acquire this vast region north and south of the Ohio river in the peace settlement of 1783.
We stayed in another Corp Of Engineers Park again tonight. Tomorrow we are headed to Joiliet, Illinois where we will be staying at The Hollywood Casino for 2 nights. We didn't gamble very much as the machines were terrible. They had a real good free buffet breakfast in the mornings. They also have washers and dryers in a couple of places that only take $1 to use, so we did our laundry there.
Sunday August 7th,    We went to Mass in the most beautiful church, and we have been in a lot of churches traveling the whole United States and more. This church was built in 1905 and remodeled in 1942. and it covers a full city block,  It has so many beautiful stained glass windows with a lot of cut glass cut and played around all the many windows. We played our board game "fast track"  in the  hotel lobby. The boys beat us 3 games again. We need to get new cards I think. LOL  ( Picture ) of Kent, John and Linda studying all the brochures to make sure we haven't missed seeing anything.
