Nashville, TN. August 5, 2016

Georges first guitar

Saturday August 5, 2016     Today we went to the George Jones museum here in Nashville. It is within walking distance to everything downtown. It is really hot and muggy today and we are ready for a cold beer and some air-conditioning. Referred to as the greatest country singer of all time, George Jones lives on in the "George Jones Entertainment Complex and Museum." There are 4 levels, two restaurants, one is a roof top bar and restaurant with a  river view, a gift shop, and a large museum with all the artifacts from Jones' colorful life and career, which includes his music instruments, awards and many beautiful suits and cowboy boots. There are a lot of framed pictures of the many stars and musicians who were a part of his life. I was surprised to see his pictures of Elvis Presley performing at the "Louisiana Hayride" as the opening act for George Jones and also Tana Tucker was his opening act. It takes quite awhile to see all that is in the museum, as George was so close to many famous musicians and he has pictures of so many of them with him and stories abou
t the occasion. He and Tammy were one of the best country duets and they really made a lot of #1 records. George had a problem with drinking and it caused a lot of problems in their marriage. When they divorced Tammy left her wedding dress with George and he has it displayed in the museum. and of course there were a lot of pictures of the two of them. When George met Nancy his last wife, she was very good at keeping him on a straighter path, she was very good for George. They had a Beauty Salon built in their home so the stylist could come to them and do their hair. Nancy said all the years George went to them, it was time they came to George. George always kept his hair in perfect order. She suggested  the salon idea, it was a cute little one room salon in their home, they had it on display at the museum, along with all his awards. They have a banquet room all set up with tables and beautiful cloths and flowers for people to rent if they want a party there. I had Kent take a picture of me in the huge rocking chair from the song he recorded, "Rocking Chair".

We are about finished with everything we want to do and see here in Nashville and will be heading to Moscow, Iowa to have levelers put on our motorhome. Our friends are having some work done on their levelers also. We left Nashville heading to the "George Rogers Clark Historic Park on our way.
